Morges at the Heart of the World
Ignacy Paderewski resided in Morges for nearly half a century. His international renown attracted leading figures from the world over, and left an illustrious and permanent mark in the charming Swiss town. Nestled within a beautiful wooded room in the Morges Castle since 2016, this exhibition testifies to the great man’s dazzling presence by the Leman lakeshore between 1897 and 1940, displaying mostly original objects and documents collected starting in 1977 (year the Paderewski Association was created in Morges, since succeeded by the Paderewski Foundation in 2014).
A virtual museum
In addition to the exhibition panels, display cases and audio/video stations, one interactive terminal provide access – as does this website – to the Museum’s every collection, comprising well-referenced, digitized documents and objects, accessible via a search engine.
This gives users two complementary ways of immersing themselves into the Polish artist and statesman’s Morgian and Swiss life – to experience the unique ambiance at Riond-Bosson, a domain no longer in existence today – whilst approaching the realness of his concert tours from sometimes unprecedented viewpoints, grasping the virtuoso’s political commitment and appreciating his underestimated legacy as a composer.
